Vita

Tristan Thielmann is Professor of Science and Technology Studies at the University of Siegen in Germany. He holds a PhD in Media and Communication Studies and studied Experimental Media Art. In 2008 he became a Visiting Fellow of the Software Studies Initiative at the University of California San Diego, in 2011/12 Tristan was a Visiting Fellow of MIT’s Comparative Media Studies Program. His cross-disciplinary research explores the aesthetics, ethnomethods, histories and techniques of geomedia with a focus on wayfinding and mobile human-computer interaction. He has published books and journal issues on the history of digital displays, on the aesthetics of locative media, on media geography, actor-media theory, and the spatial turn in cultural and social sciences. Tristan is head of the Graduiertenkolleg “Locating Media”, funded by the German Research Foundation.
